America: What Did Thomas Jefferson Mean?

( Please note this is the last post of the day as I have errands to do and it is Friday so a few Cocktails are in order this evening. I will update  as time allows this evening as well...In the mean time Please enjoy your weekend and Let Freedom Reign. )

America: What Did Thomas Jefferson Mean?

After listening to Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, and Abraham Lincoln, let’s listen to Thomas Jefferson, shall we? Here you go …
“I abhor war and view it as the greatest scourge of mankind. The most successful war seldom pays for its losses.”
He meant: President George W. Bush, it was reckless for you to launch the Iraq War in 2003! President Obama, end the war in Afghanistan now (Top-10 American Misconceptions about The World)! Stop listening to the generals, as “the wars are too important to be left to the generals”. The Afghan war, any war, must not be part of consideration for the re-election!
Follow up:
“My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.”
He meant: President Obama, the government is way too big!
“Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto. Money, not morality, is the principle commerce of civilized nations. Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations; entangling alliances with none.”
He meant: Trade with everybody, like the Chinese do, especially over the past two decades. Trade helps politics, not the other way around!
“I have no ambition to govern men; it is a painful and thankless office.”
“Never spend your money before you have earned it.”
He meant: Balance the budget!
“It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.”
He meant: President Obama, stop spending like there is no tomorrow! The national was $9T when you took office in 2009, and it is now $15T. You are by far the biggest spender in U.S. history!
“Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances.”
He meant: For all the problems America has today, have you seen anything better than this diagnosis and this solution?
“The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.”
“The spirit of this country is totally adverse to a large military force. We did not raise armies for glory or for conquest.”
“I propose that the Constitution, and each one following it, expire after 19 or 20 years.”
He meant: It’s time to significantly amend the Constitution as follows:
  • Limiting the American Presidency to 1-term (e.g. six years).
  • Raising the statutory requirements for the American Presidency, such as the minimum age to 55 (from 35) and only after having served a full-term as governor.
  • Introducing strict term-limits for Congress, preferably 1-term (e.g. six years) as well.
