U.S. Envoy to Libya Killed as Protests Flare in North Africa - Bloomberg
The U.S. ambassador to Libya was
killed in an attack on the consulate in Benghazi amid protests
in the north African country and neighboring Egypt over a film
about the Prophet Muhammad viewed as blasphemous by Muslims.
Three other U.S. personnel were also killed in the attack
that claimed the life of Ambassador Chris Stevens, President
Barack Obama said in a statement released by the White House,
saying the envoy had “selflessly served our country and the
Libyan people.” On his Twitter account, Libya’s Deputy Prime
Minister Mustafa Abu Shagur condemned the “cowardly and
criminal” attack.
