So says a new report by
the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization. It argues that
wasps, beetles, crickets and other insects are “underutilized” as food
for people and livestock, and that insect farming is “one of the many
ways to address food and feed security.”
The authors of the report point out that bugs are high in protein, fat, and vitamin and mineral content.
It helps, of course, that bugs are everywhere, reproduce quickly, and
“they have high growth and feed conversion rates and a low environmental
footprint.”
