A safe filled with silver bars and gold coins worth as much as $250,000 has been stolen from a Marshalltown woman’s storage unit, a private detective investigating the case told the Des Moines Register Friday.
The safe was taken sometime between July 6 and July 8 from a garage at an apartment complex at 415 N. Third St, said Detective Craig Brooks of the Des Moines-based Brooks Brother’s Investigations.
The woman, who Brooks would not name, is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of and conviction of those responsible for the theft and $5,000 for the return of the safe and it’s contents, no questions asked.
The safe, which was 3 to 4 feet tall, was practically overflowing with coins and silver bars, which are slightly bigger than a domino, Brooks said. The value is estimated at $100,000 to $250,000, but the woman had not had the metals appraised in recent years so they could be worth more, he said.
