Assad says it will cost $1 billion to destroy chemical weapons, take longer

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told Fox News it will take a year, not the 9 months agreed to last week to destroy the chemical weapons. He also made waves about the cost and who will pay it.
“It needs about one billion [dollars]. It is very detrimental to the environment. If the American administration is ready to pay this money and take the responsibility of bringing toxic materials to the United States, why don’t they do it?”
Assad is working to provide an inventory of the stockpiles in the next few days but the process of destroying them, with a civil war raging in the country will be difficult.
