Consumer sentiment falls in September
A gauge of consumer sentiment fell to a final September reading of 77.5
-- the lowest final level since April -- from 82.1 in August, according
to Friday reports. Economists polled by MarketWatch had expected a final
September level of 78 for the University of Michigan/Thomson Reuters
consumer-sentiment index, compared with a preliminary reading of 76.8.
Elsewhere Friday, the government reported that consumer spending picked
up in August.
