Japan Apologizes For Setting High Radiation Limits For Children

http://blog.alexanderhiggins.com/2012/06/12/japan-apologizes-allowing-high-radiation-doses-school-children-144541/

Last year Japan set the Fukushima fallout radiation limit safety limit to 20 millisieverts per year which in effectively forced school children to be subjected to high levels of radiation.
If the government set radiation limit was lower steps would have been taken to assure school children not be subjected to the high dose.
Instead parents who objected were treated as ‘conspiracy theorists’ and social outcasts even as the government ignored warnings from many nuclear experts who pointed out the limit was too high.
Japan waited until after the radiation levels fell below 1 millisieverts per year to lower the safety limit to internationally accepted 1 millisievert per year level.
The government is now apologizing for setting the safety limit so high with the caveat that just because they set the limit so high doesn’t mean they were actually condoning children to be exposed to such high levels of radiation.
Undoubtedly we will eventually see the same apology issue for food safety limits which declares food safe to eat that was considered nuclear waste before Fukushima.
Of course the apology does nothing after the fact besides admit ‘Yeah, we lied to you because we had to protect the economy. Your children were dosed with high levels of radiation and we are sorry.
