MSU Announces it will Lay Off Half its Workforce - Beckley, Bluefield & Lewisburg News, Weather, Sports
A release from Mountain State University on
Monday, July 23 announced that approximately 50-percent of the schools
workforce will be laid off as of Sept. 21.
Those employees who are affected by the lay
offs were notified today. A revised budget that included personnel
reductions was presented to the Board of Trustees for approval. The
Board determined to maintain specific positions essential to serving
students and moving the university through the appeal process with the
Higher Learning Commission. Reductions were made at all administrative,
faculty, and staff levels.
"This is a difficult decision. The reductions
are not about performance issues. MSU employees are hardworking and
dedicated. Their contributions to the university, its students, and
their communities are greatly appreciated," stated Jerry Ice, chairman
of the MSU Board of Trustees.
Interim President Richard Sours said that MSU
has established a career service center for employees which they will
continue to have access to after their last employment date.
