U.S. consumer spending climbs 0.8% in September - MarketWatch

Consumer spending in the U.S. rose a seasonally adjusted 0.8% in September, the Commerce Department said Monday. Spending for August was unchanged at a 0.5% increase. Personal income, meanwhile, rose a slower 0.4% in September. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had forecast a 0.7% increase in spending and a 0.4% rise in personal income. Since incomes rose slower than spending, the personal savings rate fell to 3.3% from 3.7%. Also, inflation as gauged by the PCE price index increased 0.4% in September. The core PCE index was up 0.1%.
