Houston Chronicle reports: U.S. Army's special forces set to train in Galveston - Houston Chronicle

U.S. Army's special forces set to train in Galveston - Houston Chronicle
The training will involve about 80 soldiers from the U.S. Army Special Operations Command in coordination with local law enforcement, said Sgt. 1st Class Michael Noggle, an Army spokesman based at Fort Bragg, N.C.

No civilians will be involved, he said.( Does he mean " Yet " )?

"We were invited by the city of Galveston to conduct joint training exercises to enhance the effectiveness of both services in order to better protect the residents of Galveston," Noggle said by email.
On Tuesday, the Houston Police Department issued a statement that included an apology for its lack of prior warning about the exercises.

I get the idea that urban training helps troops be better equipped for possible urban environments on overseas deployments. But exactly how does a mock military urban assault help "better protect" the residents of Galveston... or any other domestic locale?

SPECOPS doing a joint exercise with POLICE? Something doesn't smell right here. National guard, OK I can see that (depending on the training involved) But SPECOPS? Strange days we live in.
