The DOL reports:

The DOL reports:

In the week ending January 12, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 335,000, a decrease of 37,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 372,000. The 4-week moving average was 359,250, a decrease of 6,750 from the previous week's revised average of 366,000.
NSA initial claims of 525,422
seasonally adjusted to 364K
Does that mean 200K lost part time holiday jobs?

Little item nobody pays attention to ... how many people are COVERED by Unemployment Insurance.

That's still well under the 133.9 million peak at the end of 2008. But, we've added about 2 million people to the COVERED UI roles in the past year.

Also note the raw initial claims number for current week is almost 30K HIGHER than comparable week in 2012 ... yet current seasonally adjusted number is almost 30K LOWER than 2012's ????????
