Dish Network Corp. will shutter approximately 300 Blockbuster stores in the coming weeks, resulting in a loss of approximately 3,000 employees, Dish spokesman John Hall said Monday.
"We have not announced the locations of the stores yet," Hall told The Democrat, which means Woodland's store at 2 W. Court St. remains in limbo. The Blockbuster is in the southeast quadrant of the shopping center it shares with Dollar Tree and Big Lots, on the corner of Court and West Streets.
The closing stores will be informed in the coming weeks, Hall said. Dish will retain approximately 500 locations across the U.S. The closures cover underperforming outlets or those that are approaching the end of their leases. The company has 14 locations in the Sacramento region, from Vacaville to Rocklin.
Dish "continues to see value in the Blockbuster brand and we continue to analyze the store-level profitability as we have in the past," Hall said.
Colorado-based Dish acquired the video rental chain out of bankruptcy for $320 million in 2011. Much in the way
