On Friday, HHS issued a final regulation that
will delay a part of Obamacare.. An employee choice component of the
Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) is being delayed.
Small businesses in 2014 will still be able to buy coverage for their
employees on the new exchanges, BUT without an employee choice
component: Rather than each worker being able to pick a plan, as was
originally designed as part of Obamacare, the employer will pick one
insurance provider for everyone. Employees will get stuck with whatever
the employer chooses.
“We have serious concerns that issuers would not be operationally ready
to offer [health plans] through the SHOP if we implemented employee
choice for 2014,” is the excuse HHS stated in its release for the
delay.
You demanded it, now deal with it.
