Alberta job vacancy rate highest in Canada

Alberta businesses reported 52,800 job vacancies in September, down 8,300 from September 2012, says Statistics Canada.
The federal agency reported Tuesday that the province’s job vacancy rate of 2.7 per cent is the highest in Canada, but it dropped from 3.2 per cent a year ago.
Statistics Canada said the job vacancy rate is the number of vacant positions divided by total labour demand which is made up of occupied positions plus vacant positions.
For every job vacancy in Alberta, there were 2.1 unemployed people, the lowest ratio in Canada, and up from 1.7 last year.
Nationally, Canadian businesses reported 229,000 job vacancies in September, down 41,000 from a year ago. The national job vacancy rate was 1.6 per cent, down from 1.9 per cent last year.
For every job vacancy in Canada, there were 6.0 unemployed people, up from 5.2 one year earlier.
