Tea Party group announces spending nearly $1 million to oust Mitch McConnell – Salon
The Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF), an influential Tea Party
activist organization run by a former aide to ex-senator and current
Heritage Foundation head Jim DeMint, announced on Friday that it had already spent nearly $1 million in support of Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell’s GOP primary opponent, Matt Bevin.
SCF
reported that it spent $535,000 on promotional material for Bevin’s
campaign and directly gave Bevin another $450,000 more. McConnell,
however, is reported to have somewhere around $10 million in his
campaign war chest, money he’ll need not only to fend off Bevin but to
also best his likely Democratic opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes. The latest polling shows Grimes and McConnell to be essentially tied.
