A White House-backed bill to increase the federal minimum wage failed a
test vote in the Senate on Wednesday. The bill, which would gradually
raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour from its current $7.25, needed
60 votes to advance but got 54. President Barack Obama and his fellow
Democrats argue the increase would help workers as well as the economy,
by boosting spending. Republicans oppose the bill, citing a Congressional Budget Office
report that raising the minimum wage to $10.10 would cut total
employment by about 500,000 workers by late 2016. The same CBO report
estimated the higher wage would lift about 900,000 people out of
poverty.
Good, now lets work on a Living wage instead.....Minimum wage it slavery folks, nothing more.
