New sanctions on Russia coming: White House - MarketWatch
Europe and the United States will impose new sanctions on Russia later
this week, according to Tony Blinken, White House deputy national
security adviser. At a briefing for reporters on Monday, Blinken said
the White House was worried that Russian troops were prepared to move
into eastern Ukraine under the guise of a peace-keeping mission. Russia
is "doubling down" on its bet on pro-Russia separatists in the wake of
the attack on the Malaysian jet, he said. Blinken did not give details
of the planned sanctions. Blinken said the sanctions are designed to
pressure Russia to support a diplomatic solution to the crisis in
Ukraine. Obama held a conference call earlier Monday with leaders of the
U.K., France, Germany and Italy
