The Fed in Danger - The New York Sun
“Is it true,” Mr. Hensarling asked, “that there is a weekly meeting between you and the Secretary of the Treasury?”
“Ah, many weeks, I mean it’s not . . . every . . .” Mrs. Yellen hawed.
“Most weeks?” said Mr. Hensarling.
“Many weeks we get together and confer about matters of mutual
concern, but we are completely independent from the executive branch in
the conduct of monetary policy.”
Mr. Hensarling then asked her whether she would be willing to report
to his committee on the matters that were discussed in her meetings with
the treasury secretary. Replied Mrs. Yellen: “I’m not willing to report
on a regular basis on private conversations that I have, ah, but any
agreement that we reached would certainly be in the public domain.”
