The pain from the demise of the A&P grocery store chain will be greater than previously anticipated.
As many as 13,000 A&P workers will lose their jobs by
Thanksgiving Day as the 156-year-old grocer heads toward liquidation,
The Post has learned.
The number of workers is higher than expected because fewer A&P
stores than anticipated will be bought by rival grocers, sources said.
Those stores will likely be shut down — and all jobs lost.
The result is that nearly one-half of A&P’s 28,500 workers — some
who have been at the chain for decades — will literally be out in the
cold.
