The FBI
director has blamed cellphone cameras for a nationwide rise in crime as
he claims police are being less aggressive with tackling criminals for
fear they will become the next viral video.
James
Comey warned that the intense scrutiny and criticism of officers in the
wake of a series of high profile police brutality incidents have sent
'a chill wind blowing through American law enforcement over the last
year.'
The
director said that police felt 'under siege' with reports of officers
being taunted by young people with their smart phones from 'the moment
they get out of their cars.'
And
he warned that relations between the authorities and U.S. citizens are
only becoming more hostile, 'incident by incident, video by video.'
