January 2016 US CPI 1.4% vs 1.3% exp y/y

  • Prior 0.7%
  • 0.0% vs -0.1% exp m/m. Prior -0.1%
  • Core CPI 2.2% vs 2.1% exp y/y. Prior 2.1%
  • +0.3% vs +0.2% exp m/m. Prior +0.2%
  • Real weekly earnings 0.7% vs +0.1% prior m/m
  • 1.2% vs 1.6% prior. Revised to 1.7%
The core number and wages take center stage here. The rise in the headline will also keep the Fed hawks happy.

Imagine if they added food and fuel; my electric and gas bills are the same, which means they are more since energy commodities are down.  Only gasoline is cheaper and I don't use enough to make a difference.
