Intel says it will lay off nearly 800 employees in Oregon as part of the company’s global restructuring.
The job cuts began this week. Intel says the layoffs will be in four locations in Hillsboro and two in Aloha.
Intel also plans to close a facility near Olympia that employs roughly 350 workers.
Last
week, the company announced it’s cutting 12,000 workers worldwide, or
11 percent of its employees. At this point, Oregon’s Intel sites are not
losing 11 percent of their workers.
Intel is Oregon’s largest private employer and has about 19,000 workers in the state.
The company is reorganizing as consumers move towards mobile and cloud computing.
