To determine each state's economic ranking, WalletHub asked six
economists to compare the states using factors including economic
activity, innovation potential and economic health.
Under those broad categories the experts looked at dozens of metrics,
for example under economic health they looked at the unemployment rate,
median household income, percentage of residents living below the
poverty level.
Alabama ranked among the bottom 50 states and Washington, D.C., as the state with the sixth worst "economic health."
