“I think you have to understand that there are Democrats who are
saying that there is a process to this and the process is taking place,"
Carson said. "The problem is that after years and decades of critiques,
and an insistence that these statues be removed, bureaucrats have
refused to take these statues down, and now the people are speaking
now.”
Maryland Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen told the Washington Examiner,
“Monuments that celebrate those who fought to protect the institution
of slavery really have no place in the public square. They need to be
taken down, and I understand the sentiment to pull them down, and we
need to be working with people to pull them down.”
