Meanwhile, back in NYC, a powerful teachers union demanded that public school students and staff should be tested in the 10 days before the system reopens in September, when its "hybrid" system is supposedly set to begin, after Mayor de Blasio and Gov Cuomo decided to buck the national trend in the face of an exodus of wealthy New Yorkers fleeing the city, creating the potential for a new revenue vacuum.
United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew said his members still lack confidence in the reopening, which will involve classes of no more than 10 students, one to three days a week.
At a news briefing Wednesday, Mulgrew called for all 1.1 million students and school staffs to be tested within 10 days of the start of the school year, or not be allowed to attend.
