The new chip factories, known in the industry as fabs, were expected to create over 3,000 permanent high-tech, high-wage jobs; over 3,000 construction jobs; and approximately 15,000 local long-term jobs, according to Intel, the PBJ reported.
In August, Gelsinger told the Washington Post the company was soliciting proposals for a project that would include six to eight fabs, representing $100 billion of investment, to be built over the next decade.
